WHERE THE NEW AGE MEETS THE THIRD REICH

When David Icke—the one-time Coventry City goalie, TV sports commentator, and Green Party spokesperson—reinvented himself as a turquoise-clad Son of the Godhead in March 1991, he seemed to genuinely be concerned about the fate of humanity, channeling his automatic writing binges into a slew of messages of love and warnings about upcoming disasters wiping England off the map. No disasters materialized, except for Icke being laughed at by befuddled British TV audiences. So he hitched his wagon to a familiar horse and transitioned into blaming the Jews for all of society’s ills. Very quickly, the crowds stopped laughing and started cheering. Icke made himself a conspiracy superstar, speaking to massive audiences and making equally massive amounts of money, with the Rothschilds put at the center of a vast global “super-conspiracy” to purge the world and ruthlessly control anyone who survived.

Icke started theorizing about Jewish financial power with his 1994 book The Robots’ Rebellion—see chapter 6 for Icke inventing a link between Alexander Hamilton and the Rothschilds. But that was a mere appetizer compared to the full meal of incoherent Jew-baiting in 1995’s And the Truth Shall Set You Free. Dubbed by a columnist a few years after its publication as “where the New Age meets the Third Reich,” And the Truth Shall Set You Free was deemed by Icke’s publisher to be too antisemitic to actually release, leaving Icke to self-publish.[25] Icke mentions the Rothschilds over three hundred times in the book, liberally mixing giant blocks of text full of New Age nonsense with hyperbolic attacks on every element of Jewish culture, history, and religion. He accuses a Jewish conspiracy of both funding the Holocaust and exaggerating its horror, of carrying out terrorist attacks against fellow Jews and blaming them on Gentiles, of running the Atlantic slave trade, of starting the KKK, of suppressing secret cures for disease and alien technology, and of being the masterminds behind countless other plots and conspiracies against Christendom.

Many of his attacks on Jews and the Rothschilds are retreads: Waterloo, the Elector’s Treasure, founding the Illuminati and the Federal Reserve, and so on. But Icke seems to have a particular obsession with blaming the Rothschilds for funding the Nazi war machine—taking Gary Allen’s line that nobody should hate the Rothschilds more than other Jews and making it an ethos.

“[T]he Allied and German bankers were on the same side,” Icke writes in And the Truth, leaving out any sort of evidence. “They were connected by the same All-Seeing Eye cult; a force which goes back to antiquity. The short-term loans issued under the Dawes Plan went into specific German companies vital to rearmament. It was this money that expanded the pharmaceutical cartel known as I.G. Farben, which was, in reality, Hitler’s war machine […] These loans, which included some from Morgan and Rothschild companies, and the technology transfers from the United States to the German cartels, made the Second World War possible.”[26]
